What happens next?

 

The year 2000 will be a year unlike any other. What Future-World has in store for you and it's team of Comms worldwide will be unlike anything you've ever experienced before. What's happened thus far is merely a dress-rehearsal for what is about to come.

The global importance and use of the Internet will begin expand exponentially, and as it does, so will the size of your personal "slice of the Internet Pie".

 

Every single socioeconomic and demographic subsection of the world's industrialized nations will become enmeshed in the Global Net and the knowledge experience you've already gained will catapult your personal importance and worth to a whole new level in direct proportion to what you've already learned.

 

Every new medium begins by simply carrying the content of prior media. Radio began by setting up a microphone at live events, band and orchestral performances. But, soon it developed it's own genre. And, live radio shows and radio heroes emerged that were unlike anything ever produced before. Motion pictures began by setting up a camera in front of a stage and allowing viewers to watch a play or vaudeville act on film. But, movies advanced to a whole new level when techniques never before possible such as "the close-up" and a host of special effects and animation allowed the medium to evolve into it's own unique genre where the effects themselves have become at least as important as the actors or the story-line.

 

In it's infancy, the Internet reflected the content of magazines, Television, motion pictures and direct mail. But, it's programmability, personalization potential and interactivity features allow it to transform instantaneous communication to and from anywhere on the planet in ways that have never been considered before. Some of these new features will begin emerging as early as next year. And, those of you who have become Internet savvy are poised to benefit from the these totally new innovations in ways that will change your life and your lifestyle forever.

Y2K Compliance in a Nutshell

Future World's Data Processing Staff recommends that everyone should have already set their computer's date to a minute before midnight on December 31, 1999 and watched the "big turnover" in advance, to make sure that it changed correctly. This is the first fundamental test of Y2K hardware compliance. If you haven't done it yet, why not close all other open Applications and try it right now. (If you wait until January 1st to discover a problem, along with millions of other people who adopted the "ostrich" approach to Y2K, you may have to wait in line for quite awhile to get the software or hardware you need to make your computer complaint.)

If the turnover is successful and the computer date correctly displays January 1, 2000, the second test is to reboot your computer and watch to see if the computer clock can "hold" the 2000 date.

If the 2000 date appears correctly after reboot, test three is to turn off your computer for 20 seconds, turn it on again, and allow it to reboot. If the date is still displaying the year 2000 correctly, your system hardware is probably Y2K compliant and your computer's internal battery is charged. If either of the first two tests fail, a flash BIOS upgrade or a new BIOS chip may be needed to make your system compliant. Flash BIOS upgrades are available from the website of your computer's motherboard manufacturer or from the site of the company whose "Brand Name" appears on the outside of your computer's case. If your computer is so old that there is no flash BIOS upgrade available, upgrade BIOS Chips are available at most large computer stores and at various Internet sites. (Unless you're a computer expert, take in your computer to a local store to be sure you're getting the right BIOS chip...and have their tech install and test it for you.) If test three fails, you simply need a new internal battery, a very easy fix. After completing all three of these tests, restore your computer to the current time and date.

CPU Hardware compliance is only one (1) of four Y2K compliance checks that you should perform on your system. The other four tests involve progressively more complex software compliance tests on your (2) Operating System (Check the manufacturer's site for upgrades) (3) Application Software (such as your word processor, spreadsheet, database or email software - Check the manufacturer's site for upgrades), and (4) Your own applications or the data that you have stored within those applications (All dates should be using a 4-digit year to be compliant. If not, change your data to this format now).

If you're running a business, your computers aren't the only device you'll need to check for Y2K compliance. Cash registers, fax machines, your central phone system, your alarm system, and any other machine or device that might contain a date chip needs to be checked. Vehicles (including most private aircraft and water craft) don't use date chips that contain any year information (except in the dashboard clocks of the most expensive luxury cars which have no effect on any other systems in the vehicle). So, vehicles are one thing you won't need to worry about.

Q: What can I do with a Vanity URL Address... anyway?

A: Vanity URL Addresses make your Future World Sites easier for your customers to find and use. They allow you to include your own personal name or company name within the actual URL address if your Future World web site, which is way cool, super-convenient and very prestigious. It can even save you money when you place classified ads that ruin on a cost-per-word basis.

The button at the bottom of this article will allow you to enter the Vanity URL Registration Site.

This Special Reservation and Registration site allows you to search the Future World URL Address Database to find available URL addresses that are both short and personal. Short, simple, easy-to-remember sites are often the best. A first or last name, such as:

or

future-world.com/smith

or both first and last names, such as :

future-world.com/bill.smith

or

future-world.com/bill-smith

would make an excellent site name that is short and memorable. You can also use company names, family member names, made-up names or any combination of the 26 lower case letters of the alphabet "a" through "z", the numerals zero "0" through "9", and the following two symbols: a period "." and a hyphen or dash "-".

The site name: future-world.com/k-9dog is acceptable. It follows the above rules.

However, the site name: future-world.com/ Agent#86 is not acceptable. It uses a capital letter, which can produce unpredictable results with some types of browsers. It also uses a "#" symbol which is simply invalid and will not allow a browser to locate the site. Remember to use only lowercase letters, numbers, periods and dashes and your vanity address will work properly. If you reserve an INVALID address, you will need to contact a Future World programmer to have this address modified or removed, which incurs a site-reprogramming fee of $9.00. You can avoid this by only registering addresses that comply with the International URL address standard: letters, numbers, periods, and dashes.

Q: How many Vanity Sites may I register?

A: Five. If you have either won the recent Vanity Address Drawing, or are otherwise eligible to receive FREE Registration and Programming Set-up you may use this free set-up and registration for a maximum of FIVE Vanity URL Addresses. This means that the Registration ($70) and Set-up ($99.) fees have been waived for you. Your only cost will be $4.95 per URL per month, which will be added to the cost of your monthly subscription. Unlike your SHOWROOM and CLONEME sites, which are cgi-based, this INTRO page is HTML-based. This means that the full INTRO PAGE address (including "index.html") can be submitted directly to search engines.

You could use the following URL address in your advertising:

And, you would submit the following address to search engines:

Since you may have up to five different Vanity URL addresses, you can have one address point to your CLONE site, a different Vanity URL Address might point to your SHOWROOM site, and still another address might point to an INTRO PAGE that can access both sites. Or, you can use a single URL and INTRO PAGE to do everything. NOTE: If a visitor fails to select an option from your Home Page within 15 seconds, it automatically transports visitors to your SHOWROOM page.

Q: What do I do if I make a mistake while creating or registering my Vanity URL Address?

A: The automated Vanity URL Address cloning engine that actually creates your new URL site is automated and monitored by programmers. However, making changes to Vanity URL Addresses, once made is complicated and will require programmer intervention.

Q: Will my old URL address continue to work after I register my new Vanity Address?

A: Yes. All old site will continue to be fully operational. So, in case you have some advertising that is still running with the old address, ad respondents will continue to be able to find your site. The original URL address will remain operational for as long as your Future world subscription continues.
